The county town is - thanks to the natural healing mud deposits - one of the most famous spas in the region, an international water sports center and in the summer a very busy tourist center.

Insider-tip: If the weather does not play along, a trip to the sports and swimming center of Augustów is worthwhile. The basic price includes the use of the long waterslide, two whirlpools and the sauna (as of August 2008). Furthermore, the swimming pool has a solarium and a gym.
Especially in the high season, the city offers its visitors from home and abroad a wide range of cultural and sporting events, such as. the "Theater Summer" or the "Niemen Cup in water ski jumping".
Augustów can boast of many kayak world champions. For the sporty recreation a pedal boat trip can be a cozy alternative.
As one of the oldest cities with Magdeburg city law (1557) within the region, the coat of arms proudly bears the initials of King Sigmund August.
Those interested in history can look back to Napoléon's time, as Augustów owns a building in which the general fleeing from Russia stayed overnight on 9 December 1812 after his devastating defeat.

In the center, several specialist shops and grocery stores, as well as restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlors, are grouped around a newly designed park in the rectangle of houses.
